Chapter 492
He snorted. “She finally let me loose for a day. She said she needed some supplies from the market, but really, I think she just got a little sick of me. I was thinking of stopping to grab some coffee. Want to join me?”
“Sure.
We walked to a small cafe near the town square. Damon ordered two coffees and we sat at a table by the window. The cafe was mostly empty at this hour, which was both a relief and strangely unsettling for my racing mind.
Damon took a sip of his coffee and studied me over the rim of his cup. “So. You going to tell me what’s really going on?” he asked.
“Nothing’s going on.”
“Right. Because you look totally fine right now.”
I glared at him. “I said I’m fine.”
“And I’m saying you’re full of shit, brother.” He set down his cup. “Natalia called Grace the other day. Said things have been tense between you two lately.”
My jaw clenched. “She told you that?”
Damon shrugged. “She’s worried about you. We all are.”
“Well, don’t. There’s nothing to worry about.”
“Andrei.” Damon leaned forward. “Come on. It’s me. You can talk to me.”
I stared down at my coffee. The steam rose in thin wisps and I watched it dissipate into nothing.
I didn’t want to talk about this. Didn’t want to admit out loud what was happening. But Damon was my brother. If I couldn’t tell him, who could I tell?
“I’ve been having visions,” I said quietly. “Since the mountain. Since we got out of those caves.”
Damon’s expression hardened. “What kind of visions?” he whispered.
“Bad ones.” I swallowed hard. “I see myself hurting people. Killing them. My family. Natalia and the kids. I see it so clearly it feels real.”
“Shit.” Damon leaned his elbows on the table, making the wood creak. “Have you talked to anyone about this?”
“I just came from a therapist. Natalia made me go.”
“And?”
“And I walked out.” I looked up at him. “She said I was afraid. That I needed to confront my fear. But I’m not afraid, Damon. I’m just-” I stopped. I didn’t know what I was.
“You need help,” Damon said firmly.

“Pll be fine.
“No, you won’t be. Not if you keep ignoring this.”
Frustration flared in my chest, and II stood up. My chair scraped loudly against the floor. “I said I’ll be fine. Just… don’t tell Natalia about the visions. She doesn’t need to know the details.”
“Andrei…”
“Promise me you won’t tell her.”
Damon stared at me for a long moment. Then, he sighed. “Fine. I won’t tell her. But you need to tell her yourself. Soon.”
“I will.”
