Will’s brow furrowed. "Their timing is a bit too convenient, isn't it? Today is the deadline we gave Sebastian. Could there be a conspiracy, or do they know something we don't?"
Cary’s eyes gleamed with malice. "Even if they know, what can they do? We’ve already made our arrangements and can bypass them entirely if needed. If it weren't for wanting an insurance policy, I would have eliminated them long ago. How dare they try to haggle with me now."
"Exactly. If we increase it to fifteen percent, those five families will take seventy-five percent total. That would only leave us with twenty-five," Will said coldly. "So what should we do? Did you agree to their terms?"
Cary let out a chilling laugh. "Do I have a choice but to agree right now? We have to keep them steady for the time being. As soon as Sebastian is dealt with, we won't have to worry about handling them. Once the Austine Financial Group is in our hands, how much they get is entirely up to us. After all, a verbal agreement isn't worth the paper it’s printed on. If they remain insatiable, we'll simply wipe them out too."
Will looked slightly concerned. "Could that bring us unnecessary trouble?"
Cary’s smile grew sinister. "That’s why we pull them up by the roots. Besides, in a place like that, a few deaths are perfectly normal. It will be done so quietly that no one will ever know it was us."
Will finally relaxed. "You really have thought of everything."
"Where is Everly? Is she ready?" Cary asked in a sharp tone.
"She’s upstairs finishing her hair and makeup," Will replied. "She can't exactly go out and embarrass the Chris family at an event of this magnitude."
Cary sneered. "Then let her take her time getting ready."
"Yes, ma'am. We'll see ourselves out," the stylist said before the group filed out of the room.
Everly looked at her reflection, a captivating smile spreading across her lips.
Sebastian, you'll be mine soon. I’m finally going to be your fiancée. Even if you don't love me, we'll be bound together for the rest of our lives. This is our destiny, and you can't escape me. Even if you love that Lilian, you still have to bow to reality.
The mere thought of the man announcing their engagement at the banquet tonight filled her with exhilaration. Even if she couldn't have his love, what did it matter? As long as she was the mistress of the Austin family, it was enough.
Just then, a figure in a servant’s uniform outside the door heard her words and felt a wave of disgust. She knocked and said in a raspy voice, "Miss, the dessert you requested."
