She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 574

"I'm actually not that much older than them," Lucian pointed out.

It was just that his status was so high and his identity so unique that all these wealthy heirs treated him like a senior figure. Over time, everyone just subconsciously grouped him in with the 'older generation.'

Gordon turned his attention to the adjacent billiards room, and Lucian's gaze followed.

Loyce, dressed in a stunning pink gown, was standing by the pool table. Yorick had pressed a cue into her hand and was standing entirely too close to her. Over the loud chatter of the room, he had his head bowed, whispering in her ear and gesturing with the cue, clearly explaining the rules.

A crowd had gathered around her to watch.

After listening to Yorick and studying Morris's stance, Loyce leaned over the table. She positioned the cue, her long hair spilling over her shoulder and brushing the green felt. The angle made her slender waist look even more delicate, and the hem of her dress rode up slightly, flashing a glimpse of her toned legs.

The previously noisy crowd suddenly fell completely silent, every set of eyes locked onto the scene.

It was hard to tell if they were watching the game or the stunning girl learning to play.

Loyce couldn't care less about the stares. Whenever she decided to learn something, she gave it her undivided attention.

She rubbed the tip of the cue between her fingers, aimed, and took the shot. With a sharp clack, the balls scattered.

Her technique was a bit off, accidentally knocking several of Jasmine's balls near the pockets.

She bit her lip and sighed softly, murmuring something to Morris and Yorick, who both smiled and offered encouraging words.

Watching his granddaughter being swarmed by a bunch of flies, Gordon frowned in discomfort. "What's your plan?"

Lucian finished the last sip of his red wine and remained silent for a long moment. "Do you think I can't protect her, sir?"

Gordon studied him. He might be old, but his mind was as sharp as ever. He understood the unspoken dynamics perfectly well.

"The Shapiro family became the top military family in Metropia while blatantly building a massive business empire—that alone dances on the nation's bottom line. But what I've always found strange is this: your grandfather has no head for business, and you spent the first half of your career running classified missions overseas. You built your wealth abroad before returning. How on earth did you build this empire all by yourself?"

Before his granddaughter had returned to the family, Lucian was practically a ghost in Metropia. His time was split between naval deployments and secret black-ops missions abroad. How did he balance business on top of that?
