She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 616

Edgar offered a bitter smile. "To be perfectly honest, the main Lonsdale family has turned their backs on us, making it nearly impossible for Macrostar to operate in the current market. And for some reason, my niece holds a deep grudge against me and keeps applying pressure... I'm just trying to keep my company alive."

Horace raised an eyebrow. "I've heard the rumors. But regarding those two plots of land, even if I give you the inside track, you might not have the stomach to swallow them. Representatives from Stellar Trust were just out there doing site surveys yesterday."

"Stellar Trust?!" Edgar's face drained of color. "They're eyeing the Belfry landmark too?"

"Exactly," Horace said, a hint of smugness in his tone.

Edgar looked like he had just been handed a death sentence. This completely derailed his expectations.

Sitting nearby, Alicia suddenly interjected, "I heard that someone at Stellar Trust's headquarters is close friends with Lucian Shapiro. Are they planning to use the Shapiro Group as a proxy for the bid?"

Horace shook his head. "Lucian? No, the Shapiro Group isn't on the bidding roster this time."

Edgar frowned. "So Stellar Trust is bidding directly? How are any of us supposed to compete with a global titan like them?"

Horace smirked. "They're a massive global entity, sure, but they don't have a local construction branch in Metropia. That means even if they win the bid, they'll have to sub-contract the actual development. When that time comes, the land development will still fall into the hands of someone local."

With that one hint, Edgar instantly understood the game.

As long as the Shapiros weren't involved, Horace could pull strings behind the scenes to ensure the sub-contracting project landed directly in Edgar's lap.

If Macrostar could secure the development rights for those two plots—even riding on Stellar Trust's coattails—it would be enough to save their plummeting stock. Sure, the difficult terrain meant construction would be a headache and the return on investment would take longer, but with a wealthy veteran like Horace backing them up, funding wouldn't be an issue.

Edgar quickly refilled the older man's wine glass. "Back when Lucian Shapiro was drowning in negative press and the family stock was tanking, he managed to turn everything around overnight just by calling in a favor from Stellar Trust. If we can't secure the deeds ourselves, working as Stellar Trust's developer is just as good. Either way, Macrostar is saved."
