Ten minutes earlier, while running with Sagan, Loyce had spotted an approaching reserve patrol vehicle. Formulating a plan, she turned to Sagan. "The security at that villa is going to be incredibly tight. I can slip in first and save her. Do you trust me?"
Sagan's eyes were filled with desperate pleading. "If you can do it... please, help me."
Loyce gave him a few quick instructions before vanishing into the brush along the vehicle's path.
As the SUV rolled down the dirt road, Sagan suddenly threw himself out of the tall grass, waving his arms and screaming, "Where is my daughter?! Give her back to me!"
He slammed his hands against the windshield. Terrified, the driver slammed on the brakes.
Taking advantage of the sudden stop, Loyce dropped into the dirt and slid under the back of the SUV. Using her immense upper body strength, she gripped the chassis and securely wedged herself against the undercarriage.
Seeing she was in position, Sagan acted like a deranged madman, attempting to wrench open the car doors. Panicked, the reserve staff hit the gas and sped away.
These were actual sanctuary employees, not murderers. They had heard Mendez mention a kid sneaking onto the reserve and had planned to find her and get her out before the VIPs' sick hunting game started.
But then they received a radio call saying the child was already at the villa.
They rushed through the gates. As the car parked, Loyce silently dropped from the chassis and melted into the shadows like a ghost.
The staff members burst into the living room. "Our vehicle was attacked! The girl's father broke into the reserve, he— Oh my God!"
The words died in their throats as they saw the blood-soaked child being carried across the room.
"She's been shot! We need to get her to a hospital! We can take her!" The employees rushed forward to take the girl.
