A man like Hank was destined to be the center of attention wherever he went. Giselle had never met anyone who so perfectly fulfilled every romantic fantasy she'd ever had. Selfishly, she had wanted to give him one last chance, hoping that if they really tried, things might change.
But...
She let out a hollow laugh. "He came all the way to Engloria for me. He brought me gifts, took me everywhere, and even introduced me to his friends and business partners. He gave me a key to a gorgeous apartment and told me it was our private sanctuary."
That period was brief, but intensely happy. After classes, she would go back to the apartment, and they would cook dinner and curl up on the couch to watch movies. He would tease her when she ate too much and her stomach looked round, completely oblivious to the fact that his child was growing inside her.
Listening to her, Loyce could vividly picture the idyllic domestic scene.
"So, you had a fight?" she asked. "What happened?"
Giselle nodded. "I was terrified of hurting the baby, so I kept making excuses to avoid sleeping with him. He got frustrated and demanded to know why."
She paused, a bitter smile tugging at her lips. "It always came back to the baby. I asked him if he could ever accept having a child with me."
"He just went quiet," she whispered. "And then he told me I was asking for too much. We stopped talking for a while after that."
Eventually, her heart had won out over her head. She decided to be brave, track him down, and lay everything on the table. She got his location from one of his friends and rushed over right after class.
But standing outside the VIP lounge, she heard the one thing that broke her completely.
The door had been cracked open. She saw Hank lounging on a sofa, a gorgeous woman draped over his arm, a glass of liquor in his hand. He looked every inch the wealthy playboy. When someone casually asked about her, he just scoffed.
"Her? The college kid? Come on, it's just a fling."
In a single second, the illusion shattered. Reality crashed down, wiping away the intoxicating haze of romance.
Giselle looked Loyce dead in the eye, her voice fiercely resolute. "I need this baby. Not just for my health, but because this might be the only child I ever get to have. I'm not giving him up, and he belongs to me."
She reached out and grabbed Loyce's hand. "I'm keeping my baby, and I'm walking away from his father. I don't want Hank. I just want my child. I'm going to work incredibly hard, and I will give him a wonderful life on my own."
"Please. Don't help the Lonsdale family take him from me."
