She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 744

When the mercenary commander found out Hugo was forcing a plus-one onto his elite roster, he flat-out refused.

"We're professionals. You can't just toss a civilian into our squad. They'll get us killed."

Hugo just smiled. "It's my boss. You really think we'd give you a twenty percent discount on experimental tech for a random civilian?"

The commander froze, his eyes widening. "The old man is coming out of retirement?"

Hugo nodded smoothly. "Yep."

The mercenary was still hesitant. He respected Mr. X's undisputed dominance in the arms trade, but dealing weapons and surviving a black-ops jungle extraction were two entirely different beasts.

Sensing his hesitation, Hugo smirked. "Relax, Blood Wolf. Even if your entire squad teamed up, you probably couldn't take my boss in a fight."

Blood Wolf let out a heavy sigh. "It's not just about combat skills. Stellar Trust has their own people on this op. Specifically, their Princess."

Hugo's expression turned complicated. "A woman? Saving Lucian?"

"Yeah," Blood Wolf said. "Her name is Sigrid. She's heading up the operation. I checked her dark web dossier—she's ranked twentieth globally. The woman can fight."

He took a drag of his cigarette and exhaled a thick cloud of smoke. "But overall combat effectiveness is going to be compromised because we have to babysit the VIP. I don't know why she insisted on tagging along. Trying to play the hero and win the guy's heart?"

Hugo laughed softly. "You might actually be right about that."

Having vented his frustrations, Blood Wolf conceded. "Fine. One extra gun won't make a difference to the client. I'll send you the rendezvous coordinates."

Hugo relayed the entire conversation to Loyce, joking, "Looks like you've got some competition, Boss."

She didn't care in the slightest. Her only concern was figuring out how to tell her overprotective brothers that she was diving into a warzone.

Thankfully, her family knew there was no stopping her. Forrest Lonsdale just sighed over the phone. "If I say no, are you going to get on your private jet and fly home like a good girl?"

"Of course not."

Gordon Lonsdale's voice echoed in the background. "Let her go, Forrest. It's her life. Just make sure she has every resource she needs."
