She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 766

Giselle blinked, realization dawning. "So that's why he acts like human life means nothing. That explains his violent temper."

The revelation only cemented her resolve. "We really are worlds apart. I need to get as far away from him as possible."

Loyce took her to a few boutiques, picking up a couple of outfits. As they walked down the street, Giselle stopped outside a local jewelry store, leaning in to admire the display. The intricate designs and vibrant gemstones had caught her eye.

"These are stunning. I've never seen jewelry structured quite like this."

"Let's go in and take a closer look," Loyce suggested, gently pulling her inside.

The store was empty save for two saleswomen in crisp uniforms. Hearing the door chime, they pasted on bright, welcoming smiles. But as soon as they realized the new arrivals were just two young women in casual, unassuming clothes, their enthusiasm visibly deflated.

Girls like this were usually fresh out of college, drowning in student loans, and working three jobs just to scrape by. They definitely weren't the target demographic for luxury designer pieces.

"Feel free to look around," one of them offered with a dismissive wave.

Giselle, completely engrossed in the craftsmanship, didn't notice their attitude. She pointed to a necklace set with a fascinating violet-blue gemstone and politely asked the saleswoman with bright red lipstick in English, "Excuse me, what kind of stone is this? Is the design inspired by Aztec culture?"

The clerk flipped her hair, rolling her eyes ever so slightly. "It's Iolite. The designer details are on the tag," she rattled off in heavily accented English, eager to turn her attention to a wealthy-looking Caucasian couple who had just walked in.

Giselle felt a flash of awkwardness but pressed on. "Could I see the details up close? Or maybe try it on?" She wanted a closer look at the setting; it could give her great inspiration for her work at Bloomberry.

"Sorry, we don't allow try-ons for customers who aren't purchasing," the clerk replied sharply. Her impatience was no longer hidden as she gave Giselle and Loyce a slow once-over. The look screamed: You can't afford this, stop wasting my time.

Loyce, who had been quietly standing by, spoke up smoothly. "There's no harm in trying it on. If it looks good, we'll consider buying it."
