Chapter 375 A Firm Decision
That look of “Are you getting in or not?” grated on Lynn’s nerves.
She swallowed hard, feeling the sudden urge to march over and pick a fight–win or lose, she just wanted to hit
“Get in the car. We’ll talk.” Lucas‘ tone softened, but the faint, mocking glint in his eyes was unsettling
Lynn couldn’t figure this man out. Just last week, he’d been that aloof, untouchable heir, artd now he seemed to be oozing shamelessness from every pore.
Her father was right–Lucas wasn’t exactly husband material. Calling off the engagement had been the right call
But then again, why had her father forgotten to arrange a ride home for her tonight?
Unless… it was intentional?

Lucas snapped.

would be a disaster.
Going head–to–head with him clearly wasn’t an option.
“Just take me to my place, please. Thank you,” Lynn said, forcing a stiff, awkward smile in Lucas‘ direction.
“You’re staying at my place tonight,” Lucas replied, already focused on his phone as it dealing with something urgent

“Your mother is out of town. Your father is pulling night shifts, and with the influx from the disaster zone, no one has time to look. after you. Why else do you think your father left you to your own devices?” Lucas said lightly. “I’m not heartless enough to make a move on you right now.”
Lynn’s cheeks flushed, and she didn’t dare so much as glance his way.
“You live alone in that big condo. If you took a bad fall, I’d be stuck looking after a limping woman for the rest of my life,” Lucas muttered.
“I’m not marrying you,” Lynn said, clasping her hands together tightly.
Lucas set his phone down and looked straight at her.
Right now, she looked exactly as she had the day she came to end the engagement–determined, with that stubborn glint in her eyes.
“Are you upset?” Lucas asked.
Lynn stayed silent.
It wasn’t anger–it was her pride feeling bruised, and the widening gap between them felt impossible to bridge.
A spark of genuine interest flickered in Lucas‘ eyes.
She seemed gentle and pliant on the surface, but underneath, she was as stubborn and proud as her father.
“I’m sorry,” Lucas said.
Hearing those words, Lynn felt as if a feather had lightly brushed against the stone wall around her heart, sending subtle ripples through it.
Sorry–coming from Lucas, that was rare.
Did Lucas ever admit he was wrong?
When had he ever apologized to anyone?
Lynn let out a quiet, derisive sound and turned back to the window.
The truth was, no one was available to help her tonight. She probably couldn’t even manage on her own.
But being with Lucas felt riskier than being alone.
He’d said earlier, “You’ll find out soon enough.”
Her already warm cheeks grew even hotter.
She secretly touched her face even her palms were damp.
“I was out of line before. I shouldn’t have judged you by appearances. I should have tried to understand you better. The way treated you… that was disrespectful.”
