The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 114

Aaron didn’t just lower the front passenger window. He rolled down the one by Lance in the back too.

Catherine looked up and caught Lance’s gaze. They both froze. That awkward tension you get from unexpectedly running into someone—and making eye contact—spread between them.

Aaron finally noticed the weird vibe. Yesterday morning, when he left the office, Catherine had already reported to the logistics department. Later, he’d heard that Lara had explained everything, clearing Catherine’s name, though somehow she and Adelina had gotten into another argument. As for that rumor about Catherine turning down Lance’s offer to reverse the transfer, Aaron had only heard it in passing and didn’t believe it. Why would Catherine say no to that?

“Uh…” Aaron mumbled. “Drive safe. See you.”

Catherine had just gotten herself together and was about to greet them when Aaron blurted that out, then hit the gas and sped off.

Her lips parted, but all that came out was a soft, “Goodbye.”

As the Maybach pulled away, the breeze it left behind sent Catherine’s hair flying. She glanced at the car as it disappeared, catching a faint, blurred glimpse of the man’s features in the rearview mirror.

For a moment, something unfamiliar tugged at her heart.

A taxi stopped right in front of her. She snapped back to herself, got in, and told the driver the name of the restaurant where she was meeting Lara.

Catherine and Lara weren’t exactly close, and every time they’d met before was for work. This was their first private meet-up, and to her surprise, the atmosphere was warm and easy.

Catherine had never met a client outside of work like this. When she first sat down, she felt a little stiff, but Lara’s lively energy made it impossible to stay tense.

“No need to be nervous. We’re not here to talk shop or argue. Just think of it as hanging out with a friend,” Lara said, her curly hair bouncing as she spoke. She wore a purple turtleneck that made her look effortlessly stylish.

Catherine started to relax. “Lara…”

“Call me Amy,” Lara cut in. “And I’ll call you Catherine. Let’s just be friends.”
