“Today we need to try on our outfits, and finalize the invitation design. Everything else is set…”
Adelina went through every little detail with Lance, leaving nothing out.
In the end, all she got from him was, “Whatever you want.”
Even someone as clueless as Adelina could feel how tense the air was around Lance.
Just getting close made her shiver like she’d stepped into a freezer.
“Lance, do you even want to get engaged to me?”
Lance picked up his phone, deleting every message and photo.
When he looked up at her, the tightness in his brow finally relaxed.
“It’s not that. I’m just swamped with work. So all the engagement stuff is up to you. You can handle it however you like, bring in whoever you want.”
Suddenly, Adelina didn’t feel like she was just the so-called fiancée of SilverLeaf Industries’ CEO anymore.
She felt powerful.
She headed straight downstairs to the logistics team, started giving orders, and promoted Shirley to take over as head of Team Sixteen, putting her in charge of all the engagement arrangements.
Shirley was caught between panic and excitement. She was thrilled to be promoted, especially since it meant she’d be Catherine’s boss now. But she was also nervous, because she’d never handled anything like this, and she had zero experience leading a team.
“Don’t worry,” Adelina reassured her. “Just follow my instructions. Stick with me and you’ll get your share of rewards.”
Adelina knew Shirley wasn’t exactly competent.
But that was the entire point. She needed someone obedient, someone who would do exactly what she said.
“Adelina, I knew I made the right choice following you!” Shirley gushed immediately. “Don’t worry, I’d do anything for you!”
“No need for that,” Adelina said, her eyes fixed on Catherine’s empty desk. “Just make sure Catherine knows who the real Mrs. James is.”
Shirley didn’t ask why Adelina was so set against Catherine.
She’d already tasted the perks and nodded eagerly. “I got it, don’t worry…”

Catherine slept the whole day, but even so, she felt heavy and restless, waking up with a chill in her bones.
Something bad was about to happen. She picked up her phone, reading Gavin’s message over and over.
