The last scandal had fallen squarely on Catherine’s shoulders. And now, once again, everything was being blamed on her.
As soon as she spoke, Belinda fell quiet. No one had seen exactly what happened, it all went down so fast.
“Belinda, why aren’t you saying anything?” Sarah pressed, her voice steady. “Adelina’s practiced on those stairs countless times. She’s been in heels for years. There’s no way she just slipped. It had to be Catherine who pushed her.”
Belinda glanced over at Lance before responding. “Catherine is always causing trouble. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure Adelina gets justice.”
Sarah had heard those words too many times before. From Catherine stirring up drama between Adelina and Lance to today’s disaster, nothing ever got truly resolved, and the problems just kept coming.
“This time, I’m standing up for Adelina myself,” Sarah said.
Last time she’d wanted to finally deal with Catherine, but Amy had distracted everyone. This time, she was set on facing Catherine head-on.
“Then let’s do it together,” Belinda said, patting Sarah’s hand to comfort her. “Don’t worry, Adelina will be okay.”
Sarah nodded, but as she looked at Lance, a little worry crept into her heart.

Half an hour later, Adelina was wheeled out of the exam room. Her right leg was in a cast, her face ghostly pale, lips drained of color. She looked so small and helpless.
The moment she saw Lance, she reached out for him. “Lance…”
He walked over and placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “I’m right here. Just focus on getting better.”
“Our engagement party…” Adelina’s voice broke, thick with disappointment. She had been waiting for this day, and now it was all ruined.
“We didn’t finish the party, but you’re still engaged. You’re officially a couple,” Sarah jumped in right away. “Once your leg’s healed, we’ll do the rest of the ceremony.”
Belinda came over and tried to cheer her up, too. “Exactly. You’re already our future daughter-in-law. There’s no need for another engagement party. Next time, it’ll be your wedding.”
