The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 51

Adelina didn’t miss a beat. “She really wants to go, but Lance knows you’re trying to poach her. He won’t let her leave. If you’re willing to cover Catherine’s buyout fee, though, there’s nothing Lance can do to stop her.”

Gavin’s smile faded.

He remembered that night. Catherine hadn’t thrown herself at Lance or tried to get anything out of him. She’d pushed him away. That said everything. She wasn’t interested in Lance at all.

So she really wanted to leave?

No one knew the exact amount of Catherine’s penalty for breaking her contract with SilverLeaf Industries. She’d been Lance’s secretary for six years, though. The sum had to be higher than normal.

Gavin had money to burn and a reputation to keep up. He didn’t mind spending a little to see Lance squirm. But he wasn’t stupid. He wasn’t about to let Adelina use him for nothing.

“Lance screwed me over in business. I think it’s only fair I take someone valuable from him. But you know…”

He trailed off. Adelina felt her stomach drop. “What?”

“If Lance finds out you’re feeding me information behind his back, setting him up like this, don’t you think he’ll be even more pissed? He might just dump you for good.”

After all the drama today, Adelina was obviously upset about Lance keeping Catherine around.

Belinda had said Lance just didn’t like people scheming behind his back. That made sense. What else could it be? There’s no way Lance actually cared about Catherine.

But if Lance found out she’d talked to Gavin, that would be the end.

“What… what are you getting at?”

“We split her buyout. Half and half.” Gavin sounded like he wasn’t going to argue about it.

Adelina had no choice but to swallow her frustration. Even if she regretted it now, Gavin wasn’t going to let her off the hook. She was stuck.

“Fine. I’ll send you the money when it’s done.”

With that, Adelina ended the call, gritted her teeth, and chucked a pillow against the wall.

SilverLeaf Industries, 8:00 p.m.

The meeting finally wrapped up. Catherine followed Lance out of the conference room.

Another meeting was scheduled in thirty minutes. Looked like she was in for another late night.

She hadn’t eaten. Her stomach was growling.
