The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 510

“I have no idea what you’re talking about. Catherine’s an orphan, how could she have some secret family background? Can you just try to get in touch with her for me? I raised both Catherine and Lorinda. They’ll help me, I know it. They’ll pay to get me out.”

Amanda yanked the car door closed, holding on tight like someone might drag her straight back to that dark, miserable place.

“They’re not going to pay your ransom.” Gavin’s voice was cold, almost cruel. “The casino boss wants twenty million. Even if they wanted to help, there’s no way they have that kind of money.”

Amanda couldn’t breathe. Her face went gray.

Twenty million. That might as well have been impossible. They were never letting anyone bail her out.

Catherine and Lorinda really didn’t have that much cash. No way.

“Gavin, please. Just help me, okay? I’m begging you. Only I know the truth about where Catherine and Lorinda come from. Twenty million is nothing compared to that secret...”

Funny—she’d just finished saying Catherine didn’t have a background at all.

Gavin looked at her like she’d just crawled out from under a rock. “Talk.”

“I... I can only tell you they’re both connected to the Lee family. The real details... I have to know I’m safe first. I’ll tell you once I know I’m not about to get dragged back to the casino.”

Amanda kept glancing at the casino’s front entrance, her nerves shot, like she expected someone to grab her at any second.

Gavin finally caught on. “Wait. Both of them? Catherine and Lorinda?”

“Yes, both of them. They’re the Lee family’s people. Just get me away from here, and I’ll explain everything.”

That was all Gavin needed to hear. He floored it and sped off with Amanda.

He took her to a random apartment.

When Amanda complained she was starving, Gavin told someone to bring food. She said she felt disgusting and needed clean clothes for a shower, so he had those delivered too.

He left the apartment with heavy steps and told the bodyguards to keep a close eye on her.

Getting tricked by Amanda like this was humiliating. There was no way he was telling Catherine about any of it.

Meanwhile, Lorinda kept bugging Catherine to throw Alexander White a little one-month birthday party.

Catherine gave up arguing. She let Lorinda do whatever she wanted.

“Is it weird if the only one we invite is Gavin?” Lorinda fiddled with her phone, thinking out loud. “Should we just invite Lance too?”

Catherine looked up from changing Alexander’s diaper. “What for?”

“Well, he did help take care of you the whole first month, and he’s technically from our hometown, right? I just don’t want it to feel empty. Besides, we really don’t have anyone else to invite.”

“If you think it works, go ahead.” Catherine’s reply said everything—she didn’t really agree.
