The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 525

“Don’t worry. I’m not going to trust anyone.”

Catherine added silently in her mind, Not even Adela.

Adela relaxed at her answer, letting out a breath and glancing over Catherine’s shoulder. “Aren’t you going to invite me in? Just for a bit?”

“Not really a good time.” Catherine didn’t move from her spot. “I’m not living here by myself.”

“I heard you have a roommate. That can’t be easy. And what about the baby?” Adela’s voice softened with concern. “Is he doing alright? Someone said it’s a boy?”

Catherine paused, counting a few seconds before she answered quietly, “He’s fine.”

“That’s good to hear. Well…” Adela hesitated. “Once you get the DNA test results, call me right away. I’ll come and take you home. It’ll be big news for the Lee family—finding you, and you bringing your little one too.”

“Shouldn’t it be a triple celebration? Didn’t Sally just have her babies? Twins, right? Were they boys or girls? Or one of each?” Catherine asked. “How come the Lee family didn’t throw a party for their first month?”

A shadow of discomfort flickered across Adela’s face.

“I… well, I was so focused on searching for you after learning you’re my daughter. I just didn’t have the time or energy to plan anything for Sally. But when you’re home, we can throw a party for all the kids.”

With that, she stepped back from the doorway a couple of steps. “I’ll get going now. Take care of your little one, okay? And remember what I said. Don’t trust anyone.”

Catherine stayed in the entryway, watching Adela get into the elevator and leave.

The air felt heavy, almost suffocating. She drew in a deep breath, then closed the door behind her. Without hesitating, she tossed the few strands of hair she’d been holding straight into the trash.

Latonia had found Lorinda and was completely sure, no doubt in her mind. Same with Adela, so sure she’d found her daughter.

It was almost funny, if it didn’t sting so much—she and Lorinda had grown up together in the same orphanage, and now, somehow, both their birth families had come for them on the very same day.

And, somehow, those families were the Lees.

Catherine walked into Lanny’s room and grabbed her phone, calling Gavin.

“You said you were looking into Amanda for me. Did you find out anything yet?”
