When Lorinda got back, she was already half-soaked and grumbling before she even shut the door behind her.

A minute later, Lorinda reappeared, fresh and wrapped in a towel, heading straight for the dining area. “You always think of everything. Want me to pour you some too?”

“No need. I already had some.” Catherine was curled up on the sofa, Lanny nestled in her arms, her peaceful gaze fixed on the baby.

Lorinda ladled herself a bowl and slid into a seat at the dining table.

“Harrell said the paternity test will take at least two days,” she said, blowing on her tea.

Catherine glanced over, just catching her profile. “Is that so? So he’ll call with the results?”

Lorinda nodded, sipping ginger tea in little careful gulps. “Catherine, are you happy for me?”

“Of course I am.” Catherine didn’t have to think about it. “The Lee family is good, but they’re complicated. Do your best to listen to Latonia and the others, don’t rush into anything. Now that you’ve found your family, being together matters most.”

Lorinda set down her bowl, turning to face her. “Says who? You’re more important than any family reunion. If I really go back to the Lees, you’re coming with me. I’m not leaving you here by yourself. And as for your family… maybe don’t even look. It’s not like you’re desperate to find them, right?”

Catherine just nodded. “Yeah. No point. Lanny is all I need.”

“I heard from Harrell that Lance’s mom is coming to Eldervale next week. Adelina’s coming too.” Lorinda got up and slid into the seat across from Catherine, lowering her voice. “Apparently, it was Lance’s mom who called off their engagement, but now she’s bringing Adelina here. You think something’s changing again?”
