The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 539

“Lance.”

Geoffrey’s voice faltered, barely holding together as he stammered, “Wh-what are you doing here?”

Lance stepped out of the elevator, hands in his pockets. His eyes were glacial as he took in the scene. Catherine was being restrained by two bodyguards, a gag stuffed in her mouth, tears welling in her eyes. Her wrists were red from being gripped so tightly.

Lance’s jaw tightened. Without hesitation, he lashed out, his kick landing hard against one of the guards. Despite the man’s formidable size, he crashed to the floor. Before anyone could react, Lance dropped them both. They crumpled to the polished floor, leaving Catherine free.

Adela gave a startled gasp and instinctively hurried to Geoffrey’s side.

Lance strode forward and removed the gag from Catherine’s mouth. The moment she tasted freedom, she moved to rush past him toward Adela, desperate to reclaim her child. Lance’s hand, strong and sure, closed gently but firmly around her arm to stop her.

Catherine’s singular focus was on her son. She bristled at any attempt to hold her back. “Let me go!”

But Lance slid his arm protectively around her, pulling her against his chest. He looked up, his icy gaze pinning Geoffrey and Adela in place.

“Bring the child here.”

Adela’s eyes darted wildly as she shrank back behind her husband.

“Lance, this—” Geoffrey tried to muster a smile, his voice wavering as he spoke. “Catherine is our daughter—our own flesh and blood. We just want to take her home. It’s complicated, but with time, I can explain everything to you. Honestly, there’s a kind of destiny between us, wouldn’t you say?”

Lance’s expression didn’t so much as flicker. “This is the last time I’ll ask. Give me the child.” His words were slow, each syllable crackling with quiet menace.

Geoffrey was a man who’d weathered plenty in his lifetime, but under that frigid stare, even he wavered.
