The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 540

Lance shot him a cool glance. “No comment.”

Geoffrey’s face soured, but he forced a smile. “Just making small talk. Catherine… you know, she hasn’t been around us all these years, and she’s got a bit of a temper. I was afraid she might have upset you.”

Lance’s sharply defined features remained unreadable and remote.

“Well, we’ll be going then,” Geoffrey said, pushing Adela into the elevator.

Lance ignored him, simply watching until the doors slid shut behind them. Only then did he turn and head into Catherine’s apartment.

When Catherine came in with Lanny, she handed the baby to Alexa. “He cried himself out and fell asleep. Take him to his room so he can rest.”

Tear stains still shimmered on Lanny’s cheeks—a sight that tugged at the heart.

Alexa gathered Lanny gently in her arms and let out an anxious sigh. “Catherine, you only just had the baby. He’s still so young. Neither of you should have to go through this again. Let this be the last time, alright?”

“I know,” Catherine murmured, still shaken and unable to steady her nerves.

Alexa carried Lanny away. Barely a moment later, Lance walked in.

“What are you doing here?” Catherine asked, forcing herself to steady her voice, to sound as if nothing were amiss.

Lance’s eyes, cold and hawk-like, narrowed as he approached. “I came to settle a score.”

“Davis’s wife lost a child at birth. Around the same time, Adela vanished from the public eye for a year—'health reasons.' She came back with Lemuel. Davis stepped back to support his grieving wife, leaving Geoffrey in control. Everyone assumed Geoffrey would eventually force Lemuel in as heir. But then rumors started circulating that Davis actually had a secret son later on, throwing everything into chaos again.”

“And now? Davis has found his long-lost daughter. Geoffrey is panicked. Davis holds all the cards now. That’s why Geoffrey is desperate to get you back under his control.”

It wasn’t like Lance to talk at such length. His deep brown eyes were fixed on Catherine. “Do you really think you can stand against Geoffrey on your own?”

Catherine said nothing. Her silence spoke for itself: she knew she couldn’t.

“And another thing: Sally gave birth to two daughters, a fact Geoffrey never announced publicly. He wants to claim Lanny as well—to make him Lemuel’s son, so Lemuel can still inherit the Lees’ fortune.”

Lance’s lips curled into a bitter, cold smile, a fire flaring in his chest. “Catherine, is that what you want? For my… your son to take the name James?”
