The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 560

When Belinda returned home, she cradled the soft little bundle against her chest, utterly smitten.

She had to give credit where credit was due—Catherine’s pregnancy had certainly delivered: a baby boy.

Over in Cabinda, nearly all of Lance’s peers were already married with families of their own. Every time Belinda met up with her circle of affluent friends, she had to sit through endless chatter about everyone’s grandchildren—she’d heard it so many times she could practically recite it in her sleep. It was no wonder she’d pushed so hard for Lance to marry Adelina; part of her simply longed to become a grandmother. Though Adelina had ultimately fallen short of her hopes, by the time she realized it, they were already barreling toward marriage. Starting over with someone new would only waste more time, and there was no guarantee the next girl would be any better.

But now, things had taken a turn for the better. Catherine, heiress to the Lee family, had given Lance a son—

“The baby’s Catherine’s,” Lance said, cutting sharply to the heart of what Belinda was thinking. “That’s not my call. And until she sorts things out with the Lee family, there’s nothing more to discuss about us.”

Belinda’s face clouded over. “That’s not going to work. Are we just supposed to wait and sit on our hands for her? Who does she think she is?”

Lance glanced at the little one in her arms. “You’ll have to put the baby down first.”

“You—” Belinda whipped around, clutching the baby tighter as if worried Lance might snatch him away. “Pathetic. You are misled by a woman! Tell me, did she get pregnant on purpose? Was tricking you into bed part of her plan from the start?”

Lance hesitated, then said quietly, “I only found out recently that he’s mine.”

Belinda was taken aback. She lowered her head to study the child. “Did she risk keeping the baby, afraid we’d find out and pressure her into an abortion?” She remembered thinking back then that the baby was probably Lance’s, but Catherine had flatly denied it at every turn.

“She just wanted to keep the child for herself,” Lance murmured, his gaze growing distant and serious.

Belinda took a seat beside him. After a long moment, she finally got a few words out: “All this time, I thought she was chasing after you. Seems I had it backward—you’re the one who won’t let go?”

Lance’s brow furrowed. Was he the one clinging to her? From Catherine’s resignation to her taking a new job—he hadn’t gone after her. He’d simply tried, as any boss would, to retain a talented employee. That was all.
