The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 564

“You take him downstairs—I’ve got it covered here.”

Lance efficiently stripped the bed, tossing a damp diaper onto the tiled floor without a flicker of emotion on his face. In one smooth motion, he tossed the soiled linens straight into the washing machine.

“I’ll head out, then. I can take care of that later,” Catherine said, nodding toward the diaper on the ground.

She took Lanny downstairs, fed him, and played with him for a while. Meanwhile, Lance kept dashing between floors, busy with things she couldn’t quite figure out.

By the time Lanny had dozed off again, Catherine gathered up the day’s diapers to launder. When she stepped onto the balcony, she found the pale green sheets already drying alongside a row of still-dripping diapers.

Had Lance washed them? By hand, no less?

As Catherine stood there staring, lost in her thoughts, Lance’s voice came from behind her. “Is he asleep?”

She turned to see him holding up a tiny yellow onesie on a child’s hanger, carefully clipping it onto the drying rack.

“I can handle the laundry,” she offered quietly.

Even though Alexa was on the payroll, Catherine always felt awkward asking her to wash diapers. And the idea of Lance rolling up his sleeves for that? She hadn’t even considered it.

Lance easily sidestepped her attempt to take the little outfit. Once he’d hung it up, he faced her directly. “Go wash up. Lunch is ready.”

Without waiting for her reply, he headed toward the dining room.

“Huh?” Catherine blinked, trailing after him. Only then did she notice that lunch was already set out—a full spread of dishes and a steaming bowl of soup.

The guilt only deepened. “From now on, I’ll handle these chores,” she insisted.

Lance pulled out a chair for himself and sat, his voice quiet but firm. “Fine. Next time, it’s all yours. For now, just eat.”

She couldn’t tell if he was really agreeing or simply brushing her off, but she had no choice but to join him at the table.
