The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 575

“Ridiculous!”

Belinda sprang to her feet. “No child of the James family will ever be illegitimate! Don’t even entertain the idea.”

Sarah shot back, “So, it’s unacceptable for your heir to be illegitimate, but you’re perfectly fine letting someone like Catherine—someone so beneath you—marry into the James family? Aren’t you worried she’ll contaminate your precious family bloodline?”

Belinda’s expression was stone-cold. “That old-fashioned obsession with social standing doesn’t mean much to me. Otherwise, your family would have never set foot in this house, either.”

“Belinda, what’s that supposed to mean?” Sarah snapped, jabbing her finger. “If you don’t give me an answer today, consider our years of friendship over! I’ll take this public—let the world see just how impossible the James family is! How pitiful my poor Adelina is…”

With a dramatic flair, she collapsed onto the sofa and burst into sobs, wailing as if the world were ending.

Belinda hated when Sarah pulled these stunts—when words failed, she’d turn to theatrics and waterworks.

“You deal with her,” Belinda said curtly, washing her hands of the mess as she turned and walked away.

As soon as she realized Belinda was leaving, Sarah scrambled up to follow.

But Lance stepped in to block her path. “Sarah, behave yourself.”

“I’m not talking to you. I want to talk to your mother!” Sarah tried to push past, intent on catching Belinda.

Voice low and cold, Lance said, “Harrell already told me the truth about Adelina’s health. I’ve kept quiet out of respect for our families' history. But if you keep pushing your luck… don’t expect me to let that history protect you anymore.”

Sarah froze, eyes wide in disbelief.

“You’re in on this, too. If my mother finds out, she’ll be the first to destroy the Green family.”
