Sarah’s every word dripped with accusation.
“Will you only be satisfied once you’ve thoroughly burned every bridge with the James family? Now the Greens are the laughingstock of Cabinda—the company’s circling the drain, and you—”
Before Daniel could protest, Sarah cut him off, hanging up with a snap.
She tossed her phone onto the center console, grumbling, “Your father just can’t grasp the stakes when it matters most. All we have to do is win the James family back, and who in Cabinda would still dare sneer at us? The Green family business will bounce right back!”
Her phone buzzed again. Daniel. Without hesitation, she hit decline, then blocked his number for good measure.
“Once we smooth things over with the Jameses, watch—he’ll be the one groveling for us to come home, not daring to use that tone with us anymore.” She shot Adelina a meaningful look. “If he tries to call you, don’t answer. In fact, let me block him on your phone too.”
She took Adelina’s phone and blocked Daniel’s number. Adelina watched in silence, unease knotting in her stomach.
“Mom... do you really think we can turn things around with the James family?”
Sarah handed the phone back, a cold, confident smile tugging at her lips. “If you hadn’t mentioned that the Lees are after Catherine’s baby, I might have had my doubts. But the Lee family’s troubles run deep. With Catherine at the center of it, the Jameses will have no choice but to get caught up. And if something happens to that child, you can bet Belinda will lose her composure. Think about it—which will she protect—the James name, or Catherine?”
Adelina didn’t hesitate. “The James family, of course.”
“Exactly. She values her reputation above all else. All we need to do is stir up a little more chaos with the Lees, and then wait for our moment to swoop in.”
The more Sarah plotted, the more her spirits soared. She couldn’t help but break into a broad, satisfied grin.
