"Did you apply the ointment?" Lance asked.
Catherine felt her throat tighten even more. She desperately wanted to shove him away from her bedroom door.
"Don't worry about it!"
She furrowed her brows, her ears burning red. Thankfully, the dim lighting hid her blush.
But Lance easily picked up on the embarrassed edge in her voice.
"I couldn't control myself that day because of the drugs. The doctor said you have to apply the cream properly, or you're going to be in a lot of pain."
He wasn't wrong.
Catherine hadn't planned on using the ointment, but the soreness and burning sensation were too intense, even making it uncomfortable to walk.
She had tried to apply a little, but reaching the spot herself was awkward, and she hadn't done a great job. It barely seemed to help at all.
"Go lie down. I'll take a look."
The bedroom door was wide open, the soft yellow light spilling out. Lance's voice was a deep, magnetic rumble that instantly ignited a dangerous, electric heat between them.
"I said I don't need it," Catherine insisted stubbornly.
They had only remarried for practical reasons. Even if they were legally husband and wife again, she wasn't completely comfortable opening up to him like that!
Suddenly, his fingers wrapped securely around her wrist. She was pulled into the bedroom, the momentum sending her tumbling onto the mattress.
His cool fingertips slipped under her clothes, deftly hooking the waistband of her pajama pants before she could even process what was happening.
"It's still irritated. This might sting a little, just bear with it."
Lance squeezed a dab of the soothing cream onto his fingertips and gently applied it to her tender, irritated skin.
A cooling sensation washed over her, mixed with the intense, intimate heat of his touch, making her incredibly flustered.
Catherine tensed her entire body, instinctively trying to press her legs together, but Lance's hand gently blocked her, keeping her open to him.
The sound of their breathing tangled in the quiet room. Her exhales were shaky, and the faint brush of Lance's breath sent a tingling, electrifying shiver straight to her core.
