The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 614

Just because Lance loved those meals, she would drag herself out of bed at the crack of dawn to cook for him, no matter how grueling her shift had been.

And now, with the extra help around the house, she wasn't nearly as overworked as she used to be.

"What did you say to her?" Lance asked, setting his fork down, his appetite suddenly vanishing.

Susan replied, "I just told her that the two of you need to focus on each other, and that your grandparents would be ecstatic to know Lanny is part of our family. But she just ignored me."

Lance grabbed a napkin and wiped his mouth. After a brief silence, he stood up and headed for the stairs. "Clear the table. I'm going to the office."

"But—" Susan hadn't expected him to be so dismissive.

The rest of her words died in her throat. She watched him walk away, forced to keep her confusion to herself.

Catherine had given birth to Lance's child and they had officially tied the knot again. Why was everything so painfully strained?

It was bad enough that Lance refused to let them tell the relatives back in Cabinda, but Belinda even had to sneak around every time she visited.

Susan couldn't shake the feeling that something was deeply wrong. When Belinda texted her asking for photos and videos of Lanny, Susan couldn't hold back anymore.

*[What exactly is going on between Mr. James and his wife? They still haven't announced they're back together, and they haven't brought the baby home. Is something else going on?]*

That single message was like a cold shower for Belinda, setting off every alarm bell in her head.

If Catherine wanted to run away, fine, but there was no way that baby wasn't coming back to their family.

She immediately dialed Lance, demanding, "When on earth are you bringing Lanny home? Your grandmother has asked about him multiple times. We're all staying here in Eldervale, and she's getting anxious."

Lance was on his way to the office, the distant honk of traffic filtering through the half-open window of his luxury sedan.

"Then you should go back first."
