The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 97

Catherine’s eyes glimmered in the low light, but her voice was steady.

“Gavin, you heard wrong. Lara said she and Harrison are trying for a baby.”

A shaft of light caught her face, lighting up those striking eyes of hers. They were so clear and deep, black and white perfectly defined. If Gavin hadn’t heard everything with his own ears, he might have actually believed her.

“You’re lying to me. The baby is Lance’s, isn’t it?”

Catherine’s expression tightened. Gavin might be clueless at work, but when it came to gossip, he didn’t miss a beat.

She stayed quiet, so Gavin’s grin only grew wider.

“So what’s really going on between you and Lance?”

Catherine had no idea how to explain. That marriage was over and done, and there was no point dragging it up again, not when it would only make things messier. But if she didn’t say anything, nobody would believe there was nothing between her and Lance. Not Gavin, anyway.

“Did he harass you at work or something?”

Gavin’s mind was running wild, jumping to the worst possible conclusions.

“Don’t tell me Lance is trying to have a baby with you behind Adelina’s back. What a jerk!”

Catherine tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, forcing herself to stay calm.

“It’s not like that. It was a one-time mistake, and Lance doesn’t even know about the baby.”

Gavin looked at her like she was speaking another language. “A mistake? He has no idea, and you’re just… keeping it?”
