Catherine heard a sharp intake of breath and, on instinct, tried to snatch the towel back. In her rush, she accidentally knocked the coffee cup out of Lance's hand. The coffee spilled into the clear water, swirling and spreading, staining everything in its path, including the pristine white robe Lance was wearing.
The whole room went silent.
Catherine tightened her grip on the towel, wanting to help wipe the stain from his robe. As her hand hovered near the water, she finally realized he was still in the pool. She froze, her gaze anxious and confused, meeting Lance's deep, unreadable eyes.
A moment later, Lance stood up, water cascading off his toned body. Without a word, he grabbed Catherine's wrist and pulled her toward the lounge.
Behind them, Harrison and Gavin stepped out of the pool, watching the scene unfold.
“Lance...” Harrison started, half-rising as if to follow.
Gavin blocked his way. “Let it go. Lance probably needs a minute. Besides, I wanted to talk to you about that partnership idea.”
Harrison hesitated, then nodded. “Alright, let’s talk over there.” They moved to another pool, voices dropping as they switched to business.
In the lounge, Lance strode ahead, forcing Catherine to hurry just to keep up. When he finally stopped, she was breathless, heart pounding, her eyes flicking up to his. The robe hung loose on his body, the coffee stain painfully obvious.
He glared down at her, anger simmering in his eyes. Still, he managed a smirk. “What’s wrong? Worried you won’t be able to explain this to Gavin?”
Catherine stared at him, completely at a loss. “Did you do that on purpose? I told you, there’s nothing between me and Gavin. It’s not what you think.”
Lance raised an eyebrow. “Whatever’s going on, I don’t care. As long as you work at SilverLeaf Industries, you’re expected to act like it.”
