The Billionaire's True Heiress: From Fake Jewel to Real Crown novel Chapter 88

There was something about him, that grown-man charm you just couldn’t fake.

“Hi, I’m Claire’s uncle. Edison,” he said, stepping forward with a polite smile.

Edison looked nothing like the hard-edged tough guy the dean had imagined. He didn’t have broad shoulders or a rough demeanor. Instead, he seemed calm and put-together, almost scholarly.

Still, the dean wasn’t about to drop his guard. Who knew, maybe this guy had just dressed up for the occasion, trying to impress because he was meeting with school officials about his niece.

But as soon as he caught sight of the watch on Edison’s wrist, that suspicion faded. There was no way someone with a watch worth over a hundred grand was here to cause trouble.

“Edison, I might not have explained things well on the phone earlier. There was a conflict between Claire and another student,” the dean started, choosing his words carefully. “But Claire’s fine. Actually, she’s the one who hit the other kid.”

He figured it was best to be upfront, hoping to avoid a scene. He gestured to Jasper, who sat off to the side looking rough. Bruised eyes, swollen lip—the works. If nothing else, Edison had to see that his niece hadn’t been the one getting picked on.

Edison took one look and chuckled, like he found the whole thing entertaining. “Wow, that’s a pretty good shiner. Both eyes, too.”

Bonnie, Jasper’s mom, was fuming but didn’t dare say anything. She’d already lost an argument to Claire’s tiny but fierce mom, and now there was a man in the mix. There was no way she could win, and it drove her nuts.

Claire jumped in, trying to keep things from spiraling. “Edison, it’s all just surface stuff. It looks bad, but if we went for a medical check, it wouldn’t even count as a minor injury.”

Edison glanced at his niece, a little amused. “You sure seem to know the details.”

Claire gave him a sheepish smile. “I didn’t mean to fight. He just wouldn’t shut up.”

Edison believed her. He knew Claire wasn’t the type to pick fights, especially with boys.

“So, what did he do?” Edison asked, voice turning serious.
