Edison couldn’t stand kids like that, the ones who picked on anyone weaker than them but shrank away when faced with someone stronger. He pulled out a business card and pressed it into Bonnie’s hand.
“I’m Edison, from VIA Group. If you ever want to talk about your kid’s education, feel free to call me.”
VIA Group? There was nothing friendly about this guy. He gave off more of a mob boss vibe than anything else.
The dean was caught off guard. Was calling security actually the right call here?
Claire, on the other hand, looked like she’d just won the lottery. This was exactly the kind of guardian she’d always dreamed of. Someone who’d stand up for her no matter what. Someone who would protect her without hesitation.
And Edison’s attitude? So cool it almost made her laugh. Yesterday, she’d thought he was all calm and professional. No wonder Pandora trusted him to handle her business. Turns out, Edison was just really good at hiding his true self. Maybe he was a total fox in the business world, all smiles and schemes.
“Can I take my kid home now?” Edison asked. “She’s been scared badly enough. And tell me, did that boy say those things to her just because she’s not the James family heiress anymore?”
He looked straight at the dean, who had no idea how to reply. It was true. Most of the kids would probably treat Claire differently now. She’d enjoyed the perks of her old identity, but now that everyone knew the truth, some people were bound to make fun of her.
The dean’s silence said it all.
Edison let out a cold laugh. “The James family? What’s so special about them anyway?”
The dean felt even more lost for words. Edison really did look wild and untamable.
Taking Claire by the hand, Edison headed for the door. As they passed Jasper and his mom, Edison paused and glanced at them.
“Let me know how much your son’s medical bills are. You can come to VIA Group and I’ll cover it for you.”
He added, “Do you need anything for nutrition or emotional trauma?”
Bonnie felt completely trapped. She gritted her teeth. “No, that won’t be necessary. Kids fight, it’s over now.”
