The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 767

As Lola snuggled into her grandmother’s arms, the phone in the living room started ringing.

Mrs. Harmon gently let go of Lola. “Lola, someone’s calling. Let me answer it.”

Lola’s eyes brightened. “Do you think it’s Daddy or Mommy?”

“Let’s go find out.”

Mrs. Harmon picked up the phone. Ella’s voice came through the receiver, a little tense. “Mrs. Harmon, it’s me.”

“Ella, did you and David get your marriage license? If you did, you’ll have to start calling me Mom,” Mrs. Harmon said, her voice filled with excitement.

There was a pause. “We didn’t get the license,” Ella said softly.

Mrs. Harmon blinked in surprise. “What? Why not? Weren’t you two supposed to get married today?”

“David didn’t show up,” Ella replied.

Mrs. Harmon let out a frustrated sigh. “What… what is he thinking? Why wouldn’t he go?”

“I tried calling him so many times, but I can’t reach him. Has he come home at all?”

“No, he hasn’t come back,” Mrs. Harmon answered, worry creeping into her voice.

“That’s so strange. I can’t get in touch with him. I’m starting to worry something’s happened,” Ella said.

Now Mrs. Harmon was fully alert. “David wanted to marry you more than anything. There’s no way he’d just not show up. Unless… something really happened. Ella, stay calm. I’ll have someone check right away and call you back.”

“Okay,” Ella agreed quietly.

Mrs. Harmon called for the butler. “Go find out what David is doing and where he is. Right now.”

“Yes, ma’am,” the butler replied and hurried off.

Five minutes later, he rushed back, breathless. “Ma’am, bad news. Something’s happened to Mr. Harmon.”

Mrs. Harmon stood up so quickly her chair scraped the floor. “What happened to David?”

Lola looked up with big, worried eyes. “What’s wrong with my daddy?”

Ella ended the call and turned to Lilly. “Lilly, I’m so sorry. We’ll have to reschedule. I need to go see David.”

Lilly grabbed her purse right away. “I’m coming with you.”

“Thank you.”

Ella and Lilly rushed through the hospital doors, barely pausing to catch their breath. In the hallway, Ella stopped a nurse. “Excuse me, can you tell me where David Harmon is?”

The nurse nodded. “You’re looking for Mr. Harmon? He’s in VIP room 405, just that way.”

“Thank you so much.”

Ella hurried down the hall, Lilly close behind her. “Don’t worry, Ella. I’m sure he will be okay,” Lilly tried to reassure her.

When they got to room 405, Ella pushed open the door, her voice trembling. “David…”

She froze. Her words caught in her throat. The first person she saw in the room wasn’t David. It was Jessa.
