Jessa called Louise to share everything she’d accomplished today.
Louise sounded pleased. “That’s great. With Heart Connect, David won’t be able to leave you now.”
Jessa let out a happy sigh, but her excitement was tinged with worry. “Louise, are you sure Heart Connect won’t just… stop working all of a sudden? I’ve finally got a chance to stay close to David. I’m so scared of losing him.”
Louise laughed. “Relax. It is incredibly strong. David won’t recover unless he stays with you forever.”
“Okay. Thank you, Louise.”
“You’re welcome. Right now, our real enemies are Ella and Joanna. I’m not letting either of them off easy.”
…
In the hospital room, Aiden stepped up to David’s bedside and spoke in a low voice. “Miss Wade just stepped out to take a call. I managed to overhear a bit. It sounded like she was talking to someone named Louise.”
Louise?
That name echoed in David’s mind. Could Louise really be behind all this?
He pressed his lips together, not quite sure what to think. He knew Louise—she grew up without her parents and always depended on Moss. How could she have this much power?
Was Louise hiding something from everyone?
“What should we do now?” Aiden asked.
“I think Jessa and Louise are working together, but I don’t know exactly what they’re planning yet. That’s fine. I’ll just have to test Jessa and see what happens.”
“How are you going to do that?” Aiden asked.
David’s lips curled into a faint smile. “Simple. I’ll make them turn on each other.”
Seeing how confident David looked, Aiden couldn’t help but feel a little nervous for Jessa. She had no idea what she was getting into by messing with David.
…
When Jessa got home to the Wade house, Moss and Joanna were waiting for her. Joanna rushed over, worry written all over her face. “Jessa, where have you been?”
“Mom, I went to see David. I was with him the whole time.”
Joanna stopped in her tracks, clearly surprised. “You were with David ? Jessa, when he visited last time, he made his feelings clear. Your dad and I just want you to find someone who loves you and will make you happy. We should let go of him.”
Jessa cut her off quickly. “Mom, David invited me out to dinner tomorrow.”
Joanna stared at her, confused. “David asked you to dinner? What’s he thinking?”
Moss’s brows drew together. “Why would David ask you out?”
Jessa smirked, feeling triumphant. Moss and Joanna might not support her, but she had Louise. That was enough. “Dad, Mom, the truth is David’s always had feelings for me. He invited me to dinner because he wants to be with me.”
