Lilly grabbed her phone and fired off a quick text to Ella. “Ella, Ella, are you there?”
Ella had just wrapped up a long surgery at the hospital and was back at Lilly’s place to pick up her purse when her phone buzzed.
She glanced at the screen and replied, “Lilly, I’m at your house. What’s going on?”
“Ella, something huge is happening. I’m freaking out. I just saw Jessa at the restaurant!”
The moment Jessa’s name pop up, Ella’s lashes fluttered. Her mind flashed straight to David.
Before she could even type a response, another message from Lilly appeared. “Ella, I saw Jessa at the restaurant. She told me David invited her out to dinner!”
Wait, what?
Ella froze for a second. David invited Jessa out to dinner?
Yesterday, David was asking her to go to City Hall and get married. Now, today, he was inviting Jessa out to dinner? What on earth was he thinking?
“Ella, are you even listening? What do you think he is up to? If he really shows up for dinner with Jessa, I’m done. Seriously, I refuse to have such a scumbag cousin.”
Ella could practically feel Lilly’s frustration through the phone. “Lilly, don’t let that ruin your mood, okay?”
She set her phone down, but David’s handsome face wouldn’t leave her thoughts. Honestly, she had no clue what he was up to either.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
Who could that be?
Ella headed over and opened the door…
It was beyond infuriating.
Jessa’s mood went from bad to worse. She shot the waiter a glare. “What, you think Mr. Harmon isn’t coming?”
The poor waiter started to sweat. “Erm, I didn’t mean it like that.”
But Jessa was already on edge. “Don’t pretend you didn’t. I know exactly what you meant.”
Lilly jumped in with a bright smile. “Alright, Jessa, enough. Don’t take it out on the waiter. He didn’t say anything wrong. If you’re so sure, just call David right now and tell him to come.”
Jessa clenched her jaw. David had clearly invited her last night. Given his current situation with Heart Connect, there was no way he could stay away from her. She didn’t believe he’d just ditch her.
“Fine, Lilly. Watch me. I’m calling David right now and telling him to get over here.”
