The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 615

The fact that Chaim was Joseph's biological son was something Vivica had to bury deep down. She couldn't even tell her best friend.

It was a matter of Joseph's pride. If she blabbed about it, things would inevitably be awkward whenever Quintina ran into him. She just had to process the complex emotions on her own.

Over the next few days, Joseph was on his best behavior.

Knowing she was still upset, he stopped trying to force her to laugh with his usual relentless teasing. Instead, he simply stayed by her side quietly, watching her every move and appearing the exact second she needed anything.

This silent, steady devotion slowly worked its magic, soothing the edges of her anger.

One evening, just as she was getting off work, a massive torrential downpour hit the city. Traffic ground to a dead halt.

Normally, with her bodyguards driving, she wouldn't have worried. But halfway home, the congestion went from bad to gridlock.

After taking two phone calls, the bodyguard looked in the rearview mirror, his expression grim. "Mrs. Baird, the tunnel ahead is flooded. The whole road is paralyzed. We're stuck here until it clears."

Vivica stared at the sheets of rain hammering against the windows and nodded. "We'll just wait, then. No rush."

She had assumed it was just a regular storm with some bad drainage issues.

But when she opened her phone, she realized this was a historic, once-in-a-fifty-years superstorm!

Major roads all over the city were underwater. Low-lying areas near the hills were experiencing mudslides and landslides. Videos flooded social media showing people sitting on the roofs of their submerged cars, waiting for firefighters to rescue them.

A knot of anxiety tightened in her chest.

She looked out the window but couldn't even see past the deluge. Then, the bodyguard spoke again. "The water is starting to rise on our road, too."

Panic set in. Every year there were news stories of people getting trapped in flooded cars during extreme storms and drowning. Was that really going to happen to her?
