The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 101

At some point, the north wind outside the window had died down.

A tall, shadowy figure stood at the bedside. He reached out with long, graceful fingers and gently touched the sleeping woman's pale lips. His fingertip pressed softly against her bottom lip, tracing slowly from her chin up to her jawline, then along the curve of her earlobe and finally to the corner of her eye.

A quiet laugh slipped from his lips.

The woman on the bed didn’t stir, completely oblivious.

He brought the same hand to his own mouth and kissed the tips of his fingers, eyes never leaving her. His voice came out low and rough, warm with a tenderness he showed to no one else. “Petty…”

He braced himself on both sides of her pillow and leaned down, steadily closing the distance between their faces.

In her sleep, Petty felt a sharp ache in her lower stomach. She frowned and shifted, rolling over without waking up.

All at once, she felt something soft and cool sweep across her lips. Her eyes flew open to a dim, quiet room.

The strange feeling lingered for a moment. Then she realized it was just a strand of her own hair, fallen across her mouth when she turned over.

She sighed to herself. Why was she so jumpy today?

When the sun came up, Harris walked into Franco’s hospital room with the orthopedic doctor for morning rounds.

He didn’t expect to find Laura already there.

“Laura, you really don’t have to come every day,” Harris said as he pulled off his mask and walked over. He glanced at the breakfast sitting on Franco’s tray. Clearly, Laura had made it herself. To cook all that and get to the hospital so early, she must have woken up before dawn.

Laura scooped a bowl of chicken porridge. “I’ve got nothing better to do. If you don’t let me come, I’ll go crazy sitting at home.”
