The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 131

Aaron came over to stand next to Petty. “Don’t take it personally, Petty. He’s always like this. The mask and hat never come off, trust me.”

Petty shrugged it off. “No worries. We’ve met before, remember?”

She had picked up some self-defense from this trainer last year, before she got pregnant. He had looked exactly the same back then—mask, hat, gloves. At first, it had definitely seemed weird.

Aaron had explained it later. He’d known the guy from his mercenary days. The trainer had always been this way, and he was born mute.

Apparently, the man had even saved Aaron’s life once. They hadn’t kept in close touch over the years, but whenever Aaron called, he’d show up. No matter where he was.

So when Petty wanted to learn self-defense, Aaron thought of him right away. Petty deserved the best.

She walked over as the man stood up. He was tall, not as broad as Aaron, more lean muscle—broad shoulders and a slim waist.

Petty reached out her hand. “It’s been a while. I’ll be counting on you again.”

He shook her hand for just a moment, then let go. There was still that distant, cool vibe he’d always had.

He pulled out his black phone, opened a notes app, and started typing. The gloves he wore had the fingertips cut off, so she could see his fingers moving. [You want to learn to fight?]

Petty nodded.

He typed another message. [Your basics aren’t strong enough. We have to start with strength training. If you don’t, anything else you learn will just be for show.]

Petty bit her lip. There was less than a month and a half before her deadline. “Can’t I practice moves and work on strength at the same time? Even if it’s just for show, it’s better than nothing, right?”

She glanced at him, hoping for a yes. He looked away from her face, then typed again.

At first, she saw him write, “It is useful.” She perked up, thinking she’d convinced him. Then he added three more words, and it hit like a slap.
