Petty slipped the money into her pocket, offering a quick, “Thanks, boss.”
She started setting the bottles from the cart onto the table, one after another. They were all expensive brands, so she moved carefully, making sure not to draw any unwanted attention.
Behind the long table, there was a row of black sofas. A few people sat there, looking like they were the ones who really mattered in this room.
The man sitting in the center looked refined and calm. He gave a small smile. “This deal wouldn’t have happened without him.”
“He’ll be running the White family soon. If he can’t even handle this much, how could he ever be our partner?”
The White family...
Hidden by her mask, Petty bit her lower lip. Her hands stayed steady as she continued arranging the bottles.
Out of nowhere, someone grabbed her arm.
Her heart jumped. A cold voice snapped in her ear, “Move faster. Did you hear me?”
“Of course, sir. I’m almost finished,” Petty replied, picking up her pace. She finished lining up the bottles, then pushed the cart and turned toward the door.
Someone walked toward her. She shifted aside quietly, guiding the cart to the edge, all the while using her phone to capture the remaining blind spots in the room.
She reached for the door, pulled it open, and stepped out.
As she closed the door behind her, she didn’t notice the refined man on the sofa giving a small gesture to a bodyguard, his voice cool and casual. “Bring her back.”
Petty pushed the cart a little faster down the hall.
Her footsteps echoed in the quiet. Suddenly, music sounded behind her, then faded just as quickly.
That meant the private room door had opened and closed again.
Petty’s eyes flicked to the opposite wall, catching the reflection of two dark figures heading straight for her.
Anyone involved with this kind of business had to be on edge all the time, senses sharp. She didn’t know if she’d made a mistake or if they’d picked up on something, but being followed was never good.
