The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 161

Malcom had been acting weirdly angry with her earlier, and yet, here he was now, coming to her rescue like it was no big deal. With that kind of heart, she really couldn’t just walk away and leave him behind.

Luckily, Malcom let Jay check him over without any drama.

When Jay was done, he turned to Petty. “He’s not hurt, don’t worry.”

Jay wasn’t the type to sugarcoat things, so Petty finally relaxed. She picked up Malcom’s phone from where he’d tossed it onto the driver’s seat and handed it back to him. “Malcom, really, thank you for tonight.”

Jay shot her a quick look.

Malcom took the phone, looking at her with that unreadable expression, and typed something for her to see. [I’ll drive you home.]

Petty hesitated, ready to say no. After everything he’d done, he probably just wanted to rest, and she didn’t want to bother him anymore. But then again, this was her chance to find out why he'd been upset with her. If she really had done something wrong, she wanted to apologize—but maybe she could also ask him to teach her how to use a gun while she was at it.

So she nodded. “Alright.”

Standing under the streetlights, her eyes sparkled and there was a mischievous little smile tugging at her lips. Her lively features made her look like a clever little fox, obviously thinking of her own plans.

Malcom looked away, pretending not to notice.

Since Petty's own car was trashed and couldn’t be driven, Malcom headed over to his car—a Mercedes. He opened the front passenger door, making it pretty clear she wasn’t getting away with hiding in the backseat.

Jay and Aaron were left to wrap things up at the scene.

The car rolled smoothly through the city, and the whole ride, Petty almost asked him what was on her mind more than once. But with Malcom having to keep his hands on the wheel, he couldn’t exactly answer her by texting right now.

When they finally reached Belvedere Heights, Petty tried to get a read on Malcom’s mood, but it was impossible—he still had his hat pulled down and a mask hiding his face.
