The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 346

“Whoever it is, it’s none of your business.” Jay’s voice was ice-cold, and as soon as he said it, the call ended.

Night had fallen, and with the lantern festival over, so was the New Year in Cabinda. The boom of fireworks and firecrackers was gone, leaving the streets washed in an empty hush, like the hush that comes right after a party. The villa at The Glades felt even quieter, almost like something had died there.

Jay’s words kept playing in Laura’s head, her thoughts spiraling until she finally made sense of it all. Turns out she’d been right—Franco was never after her, not really. He only cared about her blood, or whatever it was connected to. Now he’d found someone better, she’d just become disposable.

A numbness took hold of her, her entire body stiff and cold. Staring at the phone’s blank screen, she dialed Jay’s number again. It rang, but no one picked up.

Frustration cracked her composure. She threw the phone to the ground and buried her face in her hands, sobbing quietly. Why was it like this? She just wanted Franco to care—even a little. If he could do that, she would have...

The sound of an engine sneaked in from the yard. Franco. Her hands dropped and some of the sadness faded from her eyes, replaced by a hopeful, desperate gleam. She wiped her tears and quickly pressed the wheelchair control, but it wasn’t fast enough. “Hurry up. Push me outside,” she said to the housekeeper, her voice a mix of pleading and urgency.

As they made it to the gate, Laura’s bodyguards were already blocking the car that had arrived. She couldn’t see the plates. But just from the way the car looked, Laura knew it wasn’t Franco.

It wasn’t him.

She whispered, “It’s not him.”

The door opened and Eaton stepped out. He noticed Laura’s disappointment immediately; there was no hiding it. He let out a soft snort and walked inside, not bothering to hide how much he disliked being here. This was Lane family territory—Gavin and Maisie’s home, not his.

He barely glanced at Laura as he spoke. “You told me to look into Franco. He’s not in Cabinda. I couldn’t find him.”
