The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 372

The sound of water running in the bathroom mixed with something darker, blood swirling down the sink and vanishing into the drain.

A phone started ringing in the bedroom, sharp and insistent in the quiet.

In the mirror, a woman turned her head, dark hair clinging wetly to her skin. There were still a few drops of blood on her cheek, stark against her pale face.

The ringing wouldn’t stop. Finally the water shut off. Silence settled, heavy and thick, until a damp hand reached down and picked up the phone from the floor. The screen lit up before she answered.

A deep, steady voice came from the other end. “I found something about what you asked. Two days ago, Franco’s bodyguards were seen bringing someone in and out of the hospital. I’m pretty sure that’s your person.”

“Who?” Laura asked, her tone so light it was almost bored.

“A woman. She’s in theater.”

Laura’s eyes went cold.

A woman.

She snapped back to when Franco brought her home. He never said much, always polite enough... but always distant, too. Still, he’d given her the ruby bracelet. Maybe it wasn’t the one that belonged to Petty’s mother, but it was something. He let her stay in The Glades, that beautiful villa. He took her to the hospital in person, checked on her health, shared a few meals with her when she didn’t feel like eating.

Even with all his distance, Laura had fallen for him. All those small things felt special. They had to be hers alone.

How could he do anything like that for another woman?

The anger started slowly, twisting inside her, filling her with hate she could barely control.

Another woman. She couldn’t stand it. She wished she could erase her from this world on the spot.

Yes...

Laura whispered, her voice barely audible, “Kill her...”

Franco could only ever need her. Only her blood. No one else.

***

Petty had gotten drunk. Someone wrapped her up in a blanket, warm and safe, and held her close. It was the most peaceful sleep she’d had in a long time.
