The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 380

The basement door slammed shut with a heavy thud. The bodyguards quietly slipped away, leaving the silence behind them.

Laura sank to the floor, leaning back against the cold wall as she stared at the thick door in front of her. Tears threatened to spill, but she forced them away. Franco had promised to clear things up with Petty. That thought alone gave her strength.

She let out a shaky smile. "Petty, this time, I'm taking Franco back."

Franco stepped into the living room on the first floor. Morning light was starting to filter in through the curtains. He glanced at the clock on the wall—five-thirty. Petty would still be asleep.

“Franco, are you really going to go through with this?” Jay asked quietly.

Jay knew exactly how complicated Franco’s relationship with Petty had become. If Franco told the media he and Petty had nothing to do with each other, everything they’d built would collapse. It was almost like a rundown house on the beach, ready to be swept away by the slightest breeze.

Franco skipped the question. He walked over to the liquor cabinet, opened it, and grabbed a bottle of whiskey. He poured himself a drink and downed it in two gulps.

Watching him, Jay remembered how Franco hadn’t had a real break in days. He’d been running around nonstop, dealing with trouble from Petty, worrying about his own son, and trying to fix the mess Owen had left at the family’s company. Before he took Petty to the island, Franco had been splitting his day in half just to keep up with work. But as soon as he stepped away, new problems started piling up.

Franco took another sip, his thoughts elsewhere. Jay could guess where. Franco’s son was still in intensive care.

Finally, Franco spoke, but it wasn’t an answer to Jay’s question. “Call the hospital. Tell them to send someone over right now. Laura needs a bone marrow aspiration. Get a sample.”

Jay paused, a little thrown by the sudden instruction. He wasn’t sure why Laura needed that, but he didn’t dare question it. He got on the phone and told the hospital to send a medical team to the villa immediately.

When he hung up, he walked back to Franco. Now Franco had put down the glass and had a cigarette lit between his fingers, a steady gray curl floating through the air.
