The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 390

No one could see that so-called clarification, not in the news, not on social media, not from anybody. It was only on that tablet, like a secret locked away.

Jay was already walking upstairs. Franco was halfway out of the basement when Laura called after him, her voice sharp with desperation.

“Franco! Doesn’t anything between us matter to you? Don’t you care about what we had?”

Her words hung in the empty basement, thick with hope and pain. Franco froze on the steps. He stood there for a moment, then let out a quiet, mocking laugh.

“What are you talking about?” His voice sounded colder than winter. “Are you talking about when you ‘saved’ me? Or the part where you threatened to kill yourself unless I agreed to date you?”

His words cut right through her. The “life-saving” thing—he practically spat it out.

Ever since everyone found out she’d been faking her disability, all the gratitude and guilt just disappeared. The White family had done more than enough for the James family over the years. The debt was paid, plain and simple.

Her legs were fine now. Franco owed her nothing. Zero.

But she couldn’t just accept how cold he was with her. It wasn’t enough to make him tell everyone there was nothing going on with Petty. She wanted more.

“When you agreed to be with me back then… wasn’t there at least a little pity? Before that, every time I needed help, you always helped. Did I really mean nothing to you at all?”

Franco turned his head just enough so the light caught his profile, sharp and emotionless.

“If she hadn’t brought you up to me first, I wouldn’t have noticed you at all. A place in my heart? You don’t even deserve that.”

Laura didn’t have to ask who “she” was. Of course it was Petty. Who else could it ever be?

“So what you’re saying is, I only ever got close to you because of Petty?”
