The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 395

The second the little guy finally managed to roll over, Franco pressed his large palm, gloved in protective gear, to gently support the back of his head.

The kid lay on his stomach, looking up at Franco with those big round eyes. His gaze was all smiles, his tiny voice soft as he tried, “Da…”

“Yeah, it’s Daddy.” Franco stroked his chubby head, then scooped him in close.

He ran his fingers over the boy’s little hands and feet. The kid stared at him with huge, shiny eyes, waving his hands a couple of times before they flopped down, too tired to keep moving.

He looked so puzzled, like he didn’t get why he couldn’t feel the person holding him.

Franco saw that and took the boy’s tiny hand, pressing it over his own heart through the layers of his suit. Maybe it was the steady, strong heartbeat… Something changed in the kid’s eyes, sparked a little bit of light.

The weak little voice tried again, “Da… da.”

Franco let himself just look at him for a while, stroked his head once more, and took a bottle from the nurse to feed him. He was practiced at this, feeding the little one, and the boy latched on, sucking at the milk with what strength he had left.

But he really was too weak. Before the bottle was even finished, he drifted off, right there in Franco’s arms. One little hand stayed on the bottle, the other clung tight to Franco’s suit, a desperate grip.

Even as he slept, the hand on the suit wouldn’t let go, staying there for a long, long time.

Franco didn’t force it. He kept holding him, letting the little one’s head rest against his chest as he slept, breathing soft and peaceful.

No shudders, no frowns, no mumbling or crying in his sleep. Franco’s face finally relaxed.

The medical team and Jay, who was also dressed for the isolation ward, all let out sighs of relief.

It looked like the antidote was doing what it was supposed to.

When Franco put the boy back on the bed and left the ICU, his whole presence changed as soon as the heavy door slid closed. His eyes turned cold.
