The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 411

Galen brushed his hand over the boy’s soft, round head and turned to the doctor. “Why’s he so weak?”

Right after he said it, Galen realized how pointless the question was. If the boy wasn’t this frail, Franco would never have gone to such lengths to keep him hidden. It had been a year, and judging by the boy’s pale face and tired little body, he probably didn’t even have the strength to stand up.

Suddenly, Galen remembered Franco mentioning they needed Laura’s bone marrow. Franco had never said who it was for, but now, seeing Manley like this, everything clicked into place.

“He needs a bone marrow transplant, doesn’t he?”

Newell nodded, his face grim. “Yes, and there isn’t much time left.”

“So Laura’s the only possible donor? No one else is a match?”

Newell nodded again, the weight of it obvious in his eyes.

Galen let out a slow breath, worry twisting his brow. He steadied the bottle in one hand and cradled the little boy’s head with the other, watching as the child drank his milk and started to drift off.

Laura was finally safe, but now Petty was in danger. Franco had to get Laura back and rescue Petty, and the thought of all that responsibility made Galen’s chest ache. He couldn’t help but look down at the sleepy boy in his arms, feeling a surge of protectiveness and helplessness all at once.

A breeze drifted in, and the moon peeked out from behind the clouds, spilling pale light over the mountains. Mist hovered above the peaks, softening the endless stretch of hills that faded into the night.

Petty stumbled forward as someone shoved her from behind. The rocky ground was loose and treacherous. Her foot slipped, but before she could fall, Abbot grabbed her arm, steadying her.

He glanced at his bodyguard and spoke in a low, warning voice. “Don’t be rough with her. There’s no need to hurry.”
