The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1306

Damaris refused to believe Newell could really be so cold. She struggled to get to the door, desperate to leave. Just as she reached the doorway, a tall, shadowy figure stepped in front of her, blocking her way.

“It’s you!”

The moment she saw Cedric, relief washed over her. She smiled, hopeful. “Take me out of here, hurry.”

She’d heard that Allanson had managed to catch G5 and now held the antidote. She had to get her hands on it before Charlotte could do anything.

“What are you staring at?”

Cedric didn’t move. Damaris’s face turned icy. She frowned at him, annoyed. These people had all worked for Cedric before. If she gave the word, not one of them would dare stop her.

“Damaris,” Cedric called, standing firm, his gaze fixed on her. His voice was quiet but intense. “Allanson really does have a new antidote. I want to know, if you get out, what’s the first thing you’ll do once you have it?”

“Obviously, I’ll start researching it.” Damaris’s eyes went wide with excitement. She didn’t even pause. “I’ve waited so many years for this chance…”

Cedric listened to her answer, then looked down and let out a soft, bitter laugh.

Nine had risked her life to come all the way to the Isle of Veil to save Newell. But Damaris, his own mother, had never once cared if her son lived or died.

Cedric kept thinking about it. He’d helped Damaris hunt for the antidote, and more than once, that had almost gotten Nine killed. Maybe he’d been wrong from the start.

Nine deserved Newell’s kindness. She deserved him fighting for her. Newell had been right all along. The only person in this world who really treated him like family was Nine.

“So what if I let you out?” Cedric’s eyes turned cold as he looked straight at Damaris. His words were sharp and clear. “You won’t see anyone from the Hawk family. You’re not getting the antidote.”

“What are you talking about?”

Damaris stopped in her tracks, eyes narrowing as she stared him down, confused.

“Because…” Cedric paused, steadied himself, and glanced up at the gray sky. He finally said, “The Isle of Veil is getting a new ruler.”
