Clara glared at him.

The more nonchalantly he spoke, the angrier she became.

Any single one of those wounds would have been life-threatening for an ordinary person, yet he dared to tell her it didn't hurt.

She shoved the towel into his chest.

"You can barely breathe after a shower, and you still say it's nothing. Dry yourself off and get dressed."

Rhys looked at her reddened eyes and nodded slowly.

Clara left the bathroom first, changed into a dry set of clothes, counted out his pills from the medicine box, sorted them by dosage, and poured a glass of warm water, placing it beside them.

About five or six minutes later, the bathroom door opened again.

Rhys came out wearing a bathrobe, his hair half-dry and hanging over his forehead. When he saw the water and pills, he didn't ask any questions and obediently tossed them into his mouth.

After watching him take his medicine, Clara said, "Go dry your hair."

Rhys's voice was weak. "I'm dizzy, can't catch my breath. My hands have no strength."

His words were seven parts truth, three parts pretense.

His condition was worst in hot, stuffy environments, so the dizziness was real. But to say he couldn't even hold a hairdryer was an exaggeration.

Yet even knowing he was embellishing, Clara couldn't bring herself to say anything harsh.

"Go sit down and wait for me." With that, she went back into the bathroom to get the hairdryer.

Rhys's eyes lit up. He walked over to the ottoman at the foot of the bed and sat down obediently, watching her without blinking as she returned with the hairdryer, plugged it in, and moved to stand behind him.

Warm air blew out as her fingers threaded through his short hair.

Rhys lowered his head slightly and closed his eyes.

Clara used to be obsessed with his body, and had once found a sense of security in it.

He was always so aloof, rarely having moments of such docility. He would certainly never lower his head and let her fuss over him like this.
