The Officer's Runaway Wife and Secret Son novel Chapter 465

An international express shipping label was stuck to the box, with the sender's address listed as Zurich.

Rhys, holding Felix, also noticed the box.

He paused for a beat before his expression returned to normal. "I'll take him inside first. You can bring the package in."

Seeing his calm demeanor, Clara bent down and carried the box into the apartment.

After taking off Felix's coat and pants and tucking him in, Rhys tiptoed out of the room. Clara was moving the box to the kitchen island. It was heavy, and the packing tape was wound around it in layer after layer.

"It's a gift from Noah for Felix," Clara said, dusting off her hands.

Rhys hummed in agreement. "Let him open it himself when he wakes up. He'll be happy."

Clara leaned against the island, looking steadily at Rhys.

This new way of interacting, without suspicion or hidden barbs in every sentence, felt more comfortable than she could have ever imagined.

At three in the afternoon, a well-rested Felix woke up from his nap.

The little boy, his hair a messy mop, ran out of his room barefoot. "Mommy."

Clara put down her book and went to pick him up. "Why did you run out without your shoes? Are your feet cold?"

"Nope. It's warm in here." Felix rubbed his eyes, his little head resting on Clara's shoulder as he let out a small yawn.

He turned his head, and his round eyes widened instantly, the yawn getting stuck halfway.

"That's a big box!" Felix pointed at the island. "What is it?"

Rhys, just coming from the kitchen after washing his hands, spoke up. "It's a package that came from very far away."

When he said the words "very far away," his eyes unintentionally flickered toward Clara.

Very far.

So far that it took a plane more than ten hours to fly there. So far that the time difference turned day into night. So far that the person who sent it was probably in a lab or a clinic in Zurich, wearing a white coat, doing what he did best.

Far enough, Rhys thought to himself.

But not so far that Felix and Clara would forget him.

Clara put Felix down on the sofa and brought his slippers over for him to wear. "Go see what's written on it, Felix."

Felix nodded vigorously. "Right! Daddy Noah always keeps his promises."

In the end, Rhys said nothing. He turned, found a pair of scissors, and walked back, handing them to Clara.

"Should we open it and see?"

Clara passed the scissors to Felix. "You do it, but be careful with your hands."

But the box was packed so securely that Felix struggled with the scissors, his little hands fumbling for a long time without even piercing the tape.

Rhys finally knelt down, guiding Felix's hands to carefully slice through the thick layers of tape.

Inside the box, nestled in a sea of bubble wrap, was a postcard on top, depicting a snowy scene of the Alps.

Clara picked it up. On the back was Noah's familiar, neat handwriting.

"Felix,"

"The snow here is very deep. If there's a chance in the future, I'd love to build a real snowman with you. This is a limited-edition model train set that's only available here. I hope you like it."
