The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 216

After dinner, Callahan drove Leilani home.

The elevator stopped on the 18th floor. With a soft chime, the doors slid open. Leilani stepped out and turned to look at him. "I'm here."

Callahan remained in the elevator, his hand resting on the 'open' button, showing no intention of leaving.

Leilani raised an eyebrow. "Something else on your mind, Mr. Langley?"

Callahan was silent for two seconds, his gaze deep and fixed on her, clearly reluctant to part ways.

Leilani took a half-step back, her back pressing against the corridor wall, but her smile remained sly. "Mr. Langley, forced transactions are unethical."

Callahan looked down at her, their breaths mingling in the small space. Leilani's heart pounded against her ribs like a drum. She wasn't sure what she was expecting, but the anticipation was palpable.

They gazed deeply into each other's eyes. Finally, Callahan simply reached out and gently ruffled the top of her hair, his voice low and raspy. "See you tomorrow, Dr. Sloan."

With that, he turned and walked back into the elevator.

Just before the doors slowly slid shut, Leilani waved at him, her eyes smiling. "See you tomorrow, Callahan."
