The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 700

They had previously had a fight over Ethan, so Leilani deliberately brought him up to see Callahan’s reaction.

The motion of Callahan flipping through his file paused for a second. He let out a flat “Oh,” showing no particular reaction.

Outwardly, Callahan was impassive, but inwardly he couldn’t help but think that Ethan, inviting Leilani out the moment he returned, had intentions that were obvious to anyone.

But then again, if Leilani hadn't noticed anything wrong, why should he be the one to burst that bubble for his rival? He wasn't that generous.

Leilani glanced at him and said pointedly, “Aren’t you going to ask me why I went to eat with him?”

Callahan closed the file, feigning indifference. “You went for a meal. I’m not the type to get jealous over every little thing.”

Leilani almost burst out laughing. As if the person who had given her the cold shoulder over Ethan wasn’t him. She suppressed a laugh and nodded. “Right. You’re so magnanimous. I underestimated you. I thought you might get jealous when you heard the news.”

Callahan snorted. He wasn't that petty. His gaze inadvertently swept over Leilani’s wrist and suddenly froze. “That bracelet...”

Callahan remembered that Leilani’s wrist had been bare before. Now, a silver ginkgo leaf glistened softly under the light, making her wrist look slender and fair.

Leilani followed his gaze and explained, “It’s a birthday gift from Ethan. He was away on a business trip during my birthday and couldn’t make it back in time. He asked me out today to give me this. What do you think? Is it nice?”

Callahan nodded. “It’s nice.”
