As she waved her hand, the ring on Leilani's ring finger sparkled brightly, asserting an unignorable presence.
Callahan's gaze fell on the ring, and suddenly he felt relieved. Even if Ethan knew Leilani well, so what? Her current boyfriend was him.
Plus, Leilani had accepted his proposal. She might become his wife in the future. They had a long life ahead; plenty of time to get to know each other slowly. What was he feeling frustrated about?
Callahan instantly coaxed himself into a better mood.
"Leilani." Callahan reached out, grasping her hand and lacing their fingers together, his voice low and soft. "Could you tell me more about your past from now on?"
Leilani blinked. "Like what?"
"Like..." He rubbed her ring. "What you like, what you hate, any silly things you did when you were a kid."
He paused. "Everything about you that I don't know, I want to know."
Leilani's heart softened. She leaned against his shoulder and said softly, "Sure, but it's a long story. You'll have to listen patiently."
Callahan wrapped his arm around her waist. "Is a lifetime enough?"
Leilani laughed out loud. "Barely."
...
The two embraced and shared a tender moment.
Leilani remembered she hadn't yet told Callahan that Payton Larson would be going with them to Northern Myanor.
After hesitating for a moment, Leilani finally brought it up.
"Callahan, when we head to Northern Myanor, we might need to bring one more person."
Callahan still had his arms around her. Hearing this, he glanced at her.
"Bring who?"
"Payton Larson. The patient I took on in Zell Province. He... is worried about us going to Northern Myanor alone and said he wants to come with us."
"What's his relationship with you?"
If he was just a regular client, he wouldn't go to such a dangerous place just for a doctor's safety.
