"Your elders are my elders, so what does this little matter count for?"
The faint, cool scent of pine radiating from him lingered at the tip of her nose, and Leilani couldn't help but look up at him.
"Will adding someone be too much trouble for you? If there's anything you need my help with, you must tell me."
After all, this was her business to begin with.
Callahan had already helped her so much, and Leilani wanted to do whatever she could to lessen his burden.
But in Callahan's eyes, Leilani's considerateness felt like a lack of trust in him.
He scoffed lightly, reaching out to pinch her chin, his tone domineering.
"You've left things to me, do you still need to worry?"
"Don't worry."
"With me here, just do what you want to do. Leave the rest to me."
Leilani couldn't help but smile, deliberately teasing him. "Mr. Langley is so reliable, should I give you a 'Best Fiancé' award?"
Callahan narrowed his eyes and suddenly flipped over, pinning her against the sofa. "No need for an award..."
He lowered his head, whispering in her ear.
"You can thank me another way."
Leilani's ears burned, and she pushed him. "Callahan! I'm talking about serious business!"
Callahan was relentless. "I am talking about serious business."
Leilani rolled her eyes at Callahan, laughing as she leaned back, trying to take the opportunity to slip away.
Her hair brushed against the leather sofa, making a faint rustling sound.
Callahan leaned in closer, his knee sinking into the sofa cushion as he trapped her beneath him again just as she tried to escape.
"Where are you trying to run to?"
Leilani defended herself, "I wasn't trying to run."
