"The doctor said your current condition requires at least a month of observation," Max murmured softly. "You just focus on cooperating with the treatment. The environment and weather here are perfect for your recovery. Once it starts getting colder, we will go back."
Felicia sat quietly, listening to his voice without a single word of response.
Max looked down at the woman resting in his arms. "Your birthday is coming up soon. We will host your birthday party right here. What kind of gift do you want?"
Felicia remained completely silent. Max did not push her for an answer.
"Max," Felicia suddenly called his name.
He lowered his gaze, his thumb gently caressing the delicate skin of her fingertips. "What is it?"
"Are you refusing to divorce me just for Anne?" she asked. Her voice was terrifyingly calm, her unfocused eyes staring blankly into the distance.
Max kept his gaze firmly fixed on her. "Do you want Anne to grow up in a single parent home?"
"If I am exactly the same as I was five years ago, would you still allow Anne to acknowledge me as her mother?"
Max tightened his grip on her hand and rested his chin against the top of her head. "Do not think about things that have not happened. What matters is right now. Anne needs you. I know you love her, and you want to be there as she grows up, don't you?"
